Alpha Nu Sigma Honor Society SC Alpha Chapter

On April 11, 2007 the South Carolina State University Nuclear Engineering Program (NEP) was granted a Charter to begin an Alpha Nu Sigma Honor Society. The objective of Alpha Nu Sigma is to recognize high scholarship, integrity, and potential achievement in applied nuclear science and nuclear engineering among outstanding students by means of membership in the Society. Since 2007, the NEP has inducted 28 top-tier nuclear engineering students into Alpha Nu Sigma. Students are selected based on criteria set forth by the American Nuclear Society guidelines and are invited as a candidate for membership by the Alpha Nu Sigma Chapter Advisor and the Nuclear Engineering Faculty.

Professional Organizations

Since the inception of the Nuclear Engineering Program (NEP), students have benefited greatly from membership and participation in professional organizations (see list below). Students are afforded opportunities for networking, career building through workshops and conference participation, scholarship opportunities, and internships and/or permanent employment. Meetings are generally held monthly or at the discretion of the chapter executive board and advisor. Students are welcomed and encouraged to participate in these organizations in order to enhance their professional development and set themselves apart as they prepare for their future as engineers and scientists.
